Activity description
ELIX is a Greek NGO focused on non-formal education, inclusion and voluntary work. As an ESC volunteer in the position of ‘spread the world’ you will have the opportunity to be mainly involved in the social media community management aimed to promote engagement and protection and in promoting the use of social media for advocacy and outreach in collaboration with vulnerable groups (mainly refugee and migrant youth). The objectives of the volunteering activities proposed are the following: To enhance community engagement of vulnerable groups through social media, b. To support outreach to isolated populations (both offline and on social media), c. To support community leaders in developing communication channels, by acting as a knowledge broker between them and solidarity volunteers (e.g., volunteers skilled in creating content), d. To promote transparent and open-flow communication on issues related to human rights protection and social inclusion, e. To empower young migrants and refugees in designing and implementing workshops in order to promote protection, participation and youth development, f. To inform young refugees and migrants about European mobility and education/ development opportunities and promote their integration through supporting their involvement, g. To support the inclusion of participants with fewer opportunities in mobility projects.
As part of Communication Department you will be seen as part of Staff. This means that you have to act proactively and think about ways to develop ELIX account (namely Stories and
Posts) and any activity that the department needs in the moment. You will also have the chance to continue with the activities of our last ESC: podcast, reels, etc. Don’t worry, you will always have the support of ELIX Staff. You will have a free space to share your ideas and to implement them. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be hosted in a rented apartment in Athens that will be shared among them, with chances of sharing room. The volunteer will receive a monthly food allowance (6 euros per day), and pocket money (6 euros per day). Travel costs to and from Athens are covered up to a certain amount, depending on your current location's distance to Greece. Greek language courses will be provided, if possible, by I Greek volunteer, however if it is not, it will be provided by the Online Linguistic Support, and insurance is covered by HENNER SAS. On-arrival training and mid-term evaluation will be provided and organised by the Greek National Agency.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will have the chance to develop their organizational skills by being involved in the preparation and implementation of different kinds of activities, improve their sense of responsibility and initiative towards the tasks undertaken, work in a team in a highly multicultural environment, meet different people and cultures. Besides that, they will have the opportunity to develop a social network and participate in seminars, trainings and other cultural actions of ELIX or partner organizations.
Participant profile
Available for 9 months. Volunteers should be ready and willing to work in the ELIX office together with other volunteers and staff of the organisation. Your application will be evaluated mainly on the following criteria: previous volunteering experience (preferably in workcamps) and/or international Youth Exchanges, good understanding of non-formal education and informal learning, support for sustainability, gender equality and social inclusion, good computer skills (Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Doc), good command of English. In general, we are searching for proactive people that are also willing to propose their own ideas to improve Elix departments.
Project Duration
It is important to mention that the duration of the project will be 252 days (which means 9 Months, including travel days).
