“From the moment the sun rises, children wake up to a world shaped by choices they didn't make. But every child, everywhere, also wakes with rights. Including the right to be protected, to learn, and to have their voice heard.”
- UNICEF, 2025
Today, on World Children’s Day, we use our platforms as amplifiers - to help children’s voices travel farther and resonate louder.
Today, we listen to them. And tomorrow, we listen again.
(The following reflections, as well as the creations shown in the photos, come directly from the elementary school students who participate in the program “Safing: Building Safe and Inclusive Learning Spaces at School.”)
What children say about their rights:
“Children need ID documents, otherwise they can’t get on the bus, go to the hospital, or go to school. All children are entitled to documents.”
“If we didn’t have a name, then we would be transparent - almost invisible.”
“If we were all the same, then we would all be selfish, because we would only love ourselves.”
“I wouldn’t like it if we were all the same, because then we wouldn’t be able to tell our friends, our parents, or our teachers apart.”
“Because we are different, we make an effort.”
“It’s better to say they (use neutral gender), because we are not all boys.”
“If we were all the same, then it would be boring. We wouldn’t learn anything new.”
“I don’t feel different because I speak Georgian. I feel the same.”
“Bullying is when they make fun of you because you have a different color.”
“When people treat you differently because of your color, that is called racism.”
“All children are equal.”
And indeed…
All children are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
All children deserve a world that protects them, includes them, listens to them - and respects them.
Today and every day, we stand with them.
