Campaigns and Networking

ELIX participated in the Astronomy Week, held from 3 to 10 May, under the Open Schools program of the City of Athens with the support of UNICEF.

Young and older students, accompanied by their parents and by ELIX's educational staff, were introduced to the mysteries of the universe, our solar system and the flash of the lights.

In the events participated 484 refugee children, who attend the educational activities of the project "Quality Play-Based Learning and Non-Formal Education, Enhanced Psychosocial Well-Being and Positive Integration for Refugee Children Aged 3–17 Years in Greece", which is implemented by ELIX in Attica and Central Macedonia in cooperation with Finn Church Aid (FCA) and Teachers without Borders and is funded by European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid and Church of Sweden with the support of UNICEF.

The children enjoyed the “Planetarium on the Go”, which was placed in the schoolyards of the participant schools, watching astronomical documentaries and digital performances. Mother tongue teachers of ELIX were present throughout the events and provided assistance to the students inside the digital planetarium.

The events also included observation of the stars of our galaxy through a telescope, as well as recreational activities mainly through the action "Playing".
