ELIX announces the launch of its new project, “SafIng - Building safe and inclusive learning environments”, which is co-funded in the framework of the Daphne-CHILD program by Eurochild and Terre des hommes (Tdh).
The Daphne-CHILD programme supports actions combating violence that affects children in nine European countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine), with a total budget of €1.3 million and a focus on the significant participation of children in the design and implementation of projects.
About “SafIng”
The project will run from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 with a budget of €30,000, and aims to create safe, inclusive and democratic school communities in five schools.
Main activities:
- Education in democratic citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE) for 175–200 students (9–12 years old).
- Training of 30 teachers and school staff in inclusion, protection and self-care.
- Establishment of 50 student-teacher-administration joint committees for the design of rights-based codes of conduct,
- Awareness-raising actions with the participation of 300+ caregivers and local bodies.
- Preparation of SafIng Guide and development of a SafeInc Schools Network.
The value of the project
Schools often reproduce inequalities based on gender, class, ethnicity or ability. Students themselves are asking for space and tools to confront this type of violence. “SafIng” aspires to give children and teachers the opportunity to co-shape their school communities.
“We believe that safe school spaces are the foundation of a just and inclusive society. SafIng empowers children to actively and meaningfully contribute as creators of transformation,” said Judith Wunderlich-Antoniou, General Manager of ELIX.
This project is not just about preventing violence - it aims to radically change the culture within schools. Through collaboration, education and the active participation of children, we create learning communities that promote respect, equality and empowerment. “SafIng” is a step towards an educational system where every child feels like they belong and have a voice.
