From the 19th to the 25th of October 2011, in the context of the European Year of Volunteering, ELIX-Conservation Volunteers Greece implemented a youth exchange in Athens entitled "Volunteering 2011@Eur Service.gr", giving the opportunity to 25 youngsters from Belgium, Germany,Spain, Italy and Greece to participate actively in a program concerning volunteering.
The main objective of the youth exchange "Volunteering 2011 @ EUr Service.gr" was the familiarisation of participants with the concept of volunteerism and offering, but also of active participation as a means to improve quality of life as well as personal development.
The participants conducted a research in their respective countries concerning the various forms of volunteerism and shared their knowledge and experiences with the group. In the programme they had the opportunity to experience the meaning of volunteerism with actions in collaboration with other NGOs by planting a tree for the protection of wildlife animals, cleaning a national park, offering joy to refugees’ children throughout activities. They learnt methods for spreading the voluntary spirit and were informed about the opportunities given through European programmes for the promotion of voluntary work.
