It is with great joy and pride that we announce the launch in February 2025 of the second cycle of the project "Safing: Building safe and inclusive learning environments".

We invite Primary Schools of Athens that:

  • Are interested in implementing strategies to prevent school violence and violence affecting children in general,
  • Seek to strengthen their capacity to constitute safe, democratic and inclusive spaces that encourage children's participation, develop around consent processes, raise children's awareness of rights, acknowledge and value students' diverse identities and empower children to raise their voices against injustice,
  • Are able and willing to host the ELIX educational team in their classrooms once a week for approximately 2.5 months for workshops with the children, and occasionally (2-3 times in total) in the teachers' office for a teachers’ learning circle,
  • Seek to network with other schools that share the values ​​and practices of inclusive education and,
  • Are part of Zones of Educational Priority (ZEP)

to respond to this call and thus participate together with ELIX in a multilingual, multimodal, and multisensory adventure of building safe and inclusive learning environments at school!

Safing aims at the prevention of school violence through the empowerment of the entire educational community via education, capacity building, awareness-raising, networking and counseling actions.

The project’s target groups are children 9-12 y.o. with an emphasis on the inclusion of children facing social/educational exclusion and/or displacement, the educational staff and the entire educational community to which they belong.

It is implemented by the ELIX educational team at the interested school, has a total duration of approximately 20 teaching hours (depending on the group and the context) and is completed within 2.5 months, at which time a Certificate of Participation is issued to the participating children.

The educational program consists of 8 educational modules for children, from which the group can choose according to their interests and experiences:

4 core modules: 1. Introducing myself - Discovering my classroom, 2. Our classroom: A Safe space, 3. Our team, 4. One classroom - Many children and

4 optional moduels:  1. Children’s Rights every day, 2. Our classroom: A learning space, 3. Feeling and empathizing and 4. Setting goals and looking to the futures

All modules utilize multilingual and multimodal material, while including alternative teaching scenarios, learning scaffolding, experiential and multilingual activities, in order to include children from different backgrounds and utilize their heritage languages, interests and experiences.

Supporting actions of the project include:

  • 4 elective workshops for teachers’ capacity building: 1. Safer learning environments, 2. Inclusive learning environments, 3. Trauma-informed practices, 4. Identity-informed practices
  • mediation and counseling actions and
  • community awareness and networking actions.
