Education and Training

Over 30 disenfranchised and disengaged Young People from Preston have been involved in activities that allowed the young people to develop their basic skills, communication skills, citizenship and political awareness, IT and Media Technology skills through various film production techniques.

This  included planning a story board for a film, researching local government, none statutory, voluntary, community and faith sector organisations within their communities, exploring their own personal identity within their local community, planning a filming schedule & location research, interviewing techniques and interview planning, camera operation and filming techniques.

The young people have progressed and benefited immensely from this project and have conducted interviews with representatives from various organisations including, YPS, respective  Police departments, Lancashire Council, Lancashire County Council, Training & Education organisations and local people of all ages from the various communities.

Volunteer participants that the young people selected to invite for interview for the film answered questions and give opinion about youth and what their understanding is of issues that affect the young people.  The film will give a balanced discussion on the claims of the young people that there is a lack of facility for 16 + year olds and drug related and violent crime on the estates has affected them and perhaps influenced the way that they may behave and the activities that they and other young people indulge in. as well as helping them understand local authority and statuary body policy and decision making.
