COCAT
COCAT is a platform of organizations which gathers Catalan organizations that implement activities in the social-educational field. COCAT’S mission is to develop workcamps and voluntary service as a tool for personal, collective and community development, with the central values of interculturality, peace, sustainability and social justice and equality. COCAT represents a bridge between local Catalan youth associations organizing international workcamps in Catalonia and international voluntary service movement.
We promote international volunteering in 2 main ways:
- By sending Catalan volunteers abroad to participate in workcamps, mid and long-term projects, EVS, trainings, youth exchanges, etc.…
- By hosting international volunteers in the workcamp projects that our member organizations implement.
We are really concerned about inequalities and environmental issues, that’s why:
- we support young people with fewer opportunities so that they can also participate in this kind of experiences;
- we promote sustainable practices and ways of travelling.
EVS IN COCAT
The role of the volunteers who will participate in our EVS project will be to support the incoming and outgoing volunteering areas and to be in charge of communication. This means that one of the volunteers will support the work which is done to host volunteers (incoming) and the other one will support the work that is done to send volunteers (outgoing). Both will promote international voluntary service, by producing promotional material, participating in informative sessions, updating the website and our social networks, and publishing articles and posts on our website.
Here you will find a summary of the tasks that each volunteer will carry on during this EVS project:
Volunteer supporting Incoming and EVS area
This volunteer will support two areas: the so called “Incoming volunteers” area and the EVS area
PREPARATION OF THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR THE NEW WORKCAMPS SEASON
Workcamps programme
The first step with which we start the workcamps season is the preparation of a detailed programme with all the information that we receive from our local partners with which we implement our projects in Catalonia. The program of COCAT’s workcamp season is going to be shared with COCAT’s international partners during the annual Technical Meeting of the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations, our international network.
Infosheets
Detailed informative documents to be sent to the volunteers that will participate in Catalan workcamps (it includes some general info about COCAT and Catalonia and detailed information about the project, how to get to the meeting point, contact person, etc.)
PLACEMENT
Once all these documents are ready, the registration process starts. It’s time to keep in touch with international organizations, in order to evaluate the applications of the volunteers that they would like to send; and to be in contact with local organizations, in order to see which volunteers they can host. The EVS volunteer will also deal with visa invitation letters and other documents.
TRAINING FOR CATALAN VOLUNTEERS IN COCAT INTERNATIONAL WORKCAMPS
COCAT organizes several trainings prior to volunteers’ departure. We expect from the EVS volunteer to support this activity with the rest of the team.
VISITING AND PARTICIPATING IN, AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT
The volunteer will have the opportunity, if he/she wishes to do so, to participate in an international project - a workcamp, a youth exchange, an international training, depending on volunteer’s availability. He/she could also have the opportunity to visit Catalan workcamps during the summer season with the rest of the team.
EVALUATIONS
At the end of the workcamps season evaluations take place. The EVS volunteer will go through the evaluation forms and will also participate in the evaluation meetings, in order to understand and to know about the experiences of Catalan volunteers in COCAT’s workcamps.
ANNUAL REPORT
Apart from the evaluations done by the participants in COCAT workcamps, and from the feedback given by our member organizations, we produce an annual report that shows what has happened in our workcamps during the whole year and a best practice report that highlights the most positive aspects and examples that we can promote among our international partners.
SUPPORT FOR LONG TERM VOLUNTEERING
The volunteer will help the long-term volunteering coordinator to spread EVS vacancies among volunteers willing to participate in a long-term project abroad. He/she will also participate in the informative speeches about EVS and in the pre-departure trainings for Catalan volunteers starting the EVS experience.
The tasks in this area will be especially related to communication and social media management.

The first step for a volunteer that wants to go abroad on a workcamp is to be well informed, so the first thing that the EVS volunteer will do is going to be related to this (picking-up the phone and answer e-mails giving information to volunteers, informative sessions.)

The next step is the registration process. The EVS volunteer will support the registration process by using our database and contacting international organizations.
