Citizenship has its roots in the idea of active participation in the local community.The actions in these communities are the ones that make the difference and build an active Europe.

The programme "EC4LA-European Citizens For Local Action - Promoting active citizenship and European Identity through volunteering on local level" is the result of the long experience of the twelve European partners participating, in the work with volunteers and local communities. They have been supporting the volunteer movement in order to promote active citizenship and the participation of individuals in local actions.

ELIX offers an EVS position for a volunteer from UK in Athens

ELIX has already approved an EVS project “Volunteering is in our Nature” and is still looking for one volunteer from the UK or Northern Ireland who may be willing to volunteer and work with ELIX in Athens. Another EVS volunteer from Germany will begin on the 4th of March, under the same project.

In December 2012, ELIX organized an international training course on empowerment, creativity and entrepreneurship in Athens. The international training course “Dynamo” aimed to provide tools and competencies to current and future project managers and Non-Formal-Learning activity leaders of NGOs within the area of empowerment and entrepreneurship, with a focus on creativity and peer support. 18 participants from the East and West of Europe worked together for 9 days under the support of ELIX trainers and facilitators.

The ‘ec4la’Conference will take place in Athens from 22^nd till 24^th of February at President Hotel.

The conference aims to encourage and educate local people to take an active role in society and to implement new ideas and initiatives through volunteer action and the support of the organisations involved. It will give space for individuals who are or want to get involved in volunteering, members of the partner NGOs, local organisations and initiatives from Greece and Europe. And to promote ec4la project.

ELIX is organising a training course programme "DYNAMO" in Athens between 30 of November  to 8 of December 2012.

18 participants from 9 different countries will participate, from Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, France, Georgia, UK, Italy, Ukraine and Greece

“Can YOUth make it?” will focus on the initiatives taken by local groups and local organisations and will show the effect that the projects have on citizens life in the respective community.

Black vultures? All in a day’s work for Bryan(*)

Even at a place where volunteering is actively encouraged, former Oatridge College student Bryan Deakin from Bonnybridge near Falkirk is building a reputation as someone out of the ordinary.

From the 19th to the 25th of October 2011, in the context of the European Year of Volunteering, ELIX-Conservation Volunteers Greece implemented a youth exchange in Athens entitled "Volunteering 2011@Eur Service.gr", giving the opportunity to 25 youngsters from Belgium, Germany,Spain, Italy and Greece to participate actively in a program concerning volunteering.
