    ELIX, supported by UNICEF and funded by the European Commission (DG ECHO), began in October 2017 the implementation of an educational program for refugee and immigrant children and their parents in Attica.

    The project will support refugee integration in schools and is designed to provide day-to-day coverage of the educational needs of children aged 3-17 and daily support for the school study for children aged 6-15.

    Continuing the successful cooperation with Finn Church Aid (FCA), ELIX is starting the “Project Yoga”, an educational project for locals, refugees and migrants that is promoting non-formal education as a tool towards integration and personal development.

    In October and November 2017, the project is offering a series of Yoga classes for beginners in order to contribute to integration in Greece by bringing together refugees and host community members and enhance the psychosocial and physical wellbeing of the participants.

    In 2017, ELIX is celebrating 30 years of action. All these years, ELIX has played an active role in the field of volunteering on national and international level. With credibility and responsibility, ELIX, is giving the chance to an always increasing number of young people to participate in voluntary projects abroad and while receiving foreign volunteers to offer their voluntary service in Greece.

    This year, ELIX has the honor to host the 35th Annual General Assembly of the ALLIANCE of European Voluntary Service Organisations, that will be held in Athens from the 1st to the 3rd of November 2017.

    A visit to ELIX Learning Centers in Urban Athens was held on Friday 19th and Monday 22nd of May by the Directorate General for the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), Yorgos Kapranis from DG ECHO office in Athens and Nieve O 'Sullivan, Programme Manager from the Emergency Support Inside European Union.

    The Ambassador of Finland in Greece, Juha Pyykkö, visited one of the four ELIX Learning Centers for refugee children in Attica on Tuesday, May 23rd.

    The Ambassador was informed in relation to the project and the efforts made to help refugee children in Greece access formal education.

    ELIX will participate in the sports and culture event that will take place on May 23rd, at Kaftanzoglio Stadium in Thessaloniki, organized by the Regional Directorate of Education of Central Macedonia and the Coordination Office for Education of Refugees.

    The event embraces the moto «ΠαιΖΟΥΜΕ Μαζί», which means “we play (and live) together”. It is addressed to both refugee children, hosted in camp sites in Central Macedonia, enrolled in Reception Classes for the Education of Refugees, as well as local children enrolled in the morning classes hosted in the same school facilities of primary and secondary education.

    ELIX will organize four workcamps "THIS SUMMER IS OURS" with the support of the company - Hellenic Petroleum - and the Municipalities of Elefsina in Attika and Kordelio-Evosmos in Thessaloniki. The workcamp aims to support children and young people with mental and physical disabilities, by providing them the opportunity to spend a quality summer time through creative activities since it is difficult for this target group to find any activities they could take part in during summer.

    From 21st to 26th of February 2017, ELIX will be hosting the Induction seminar in Athens as the first step within the Long Term Training Course (LTTC) of our network ALLIANCE of European Voluntary Service Organisations.

    The Induction Seminar aims at providing young trainees with information and resources on how to design IVS projects as structured methodological and pedagogical tools.

    ELIX in cooperation with Finn Church Aid (FCA) and Teachers without Borders, and funded by UNICEF and Church of Sweden, has started the implementation of the educational programme addressed to refugee children aged 3-17, who are staying in the regions of Attica and Central Macedonia. The programme will last until June 2017.

    The aim is to provide quality, non-formal education, to enhance psychosocial well-being and positive integration. Read the Press Release.

    ELIX in cooperation with Finn Church Aid (FCA) and Church of Sweden, and funded by UNICEF, has started the implementation of an educational programme addressed to refugee children aged 3-17, who are staying in the regions of Attica and Central Macedonia.

    In Attica the programme takes place at the Eleonas camp site and other urban buildings, which function as educational centers, while in Central Macedonia at the camp sites of Derveni (Alexyl) and Kavallari (Sinatex).

    “πάμε Σχολείο!” a taste of school, before school!
    A two month summer project for children from the Eleonas refugee camp

     Athens 10/9/2016

    Every day, during the months of July and August, 200 children (in total) from the Refugee Camp of Eleonas in Attica, are competing with each other for who will be the first one in the queue in order to enter the school bus. Every day children aged 6 - 13, take part in the summer project “πάμε Σχολείο!” (“Pame Scholio”- “Let’s Go To School”) organized by the NGO ELIX - Conservation Volunteers Greece.
