A new series of free intercultural workshops of "Arts and Crafts" will be offered in ELIX in the framework of free workshops that are taking place in p^2 multispace, starting this week and more specifically, tomorrow, Tuesday, 16th of October.

A school visit to ELIX and the Educational Center in Patission Street took place on Tuesday, October 9, by a group of Finnish students from the Gymnasiet Grankulla samskola as part of their educational school trip to Greece.

“YOUth Exchanges for Diversity - #YEs4Diversity” is the title of the new project proposed by ELIX that will be implemented over 2018-2019 and will include two Youth Exchanges, and preparatory meetings (APVs).

A new school year began this week, with ELIX presenting an annual review of the implementation of the project "Learning for Education: Quality learning and non-formal education for children, refugee and migrants, in Attica" that we implement with the support of UNICEF and funded by DG ECHO, for the period 2017-2018.

Young refugees addressing the rise of populism

The study session took place in the Youth Center of Council of Europe, in Strasbourg between 9th and13th of July 2018 by the Council of Europe Youth Department and VYRE (Voices of Young Refugees in Europe). The study session aimed at addressing populism as a potential threat to democracy through challenging negative narratives surrounding refugees and empowerment of young refugees to access their rights.

Do you want to help children, refugees and migrants, to learn English or Greek?

ELIX is looking for motivated volunteers to assist the teaching of English and/or Greek to children, refugees and migrants, as well as their parents/guardians, in Athens.

Supported by UNICEF, funded by DG ECHO and in cooperation with Athens Open Schools, ELIX is running a program of non-formal education for children aged 3 to 17 since October 2017.

Focusing on the children who attend the "Learning for Integration: Qualitative Learning and Non-Formal Education for Refugee and Migrant Children in Greece" project, ELIX created a video for the educational program it runs since October 2017.

The completion of the "Summer in the City" and "This Summer is ours" projects was celebrated last Friday, July 27, by the children, their parents, their teachers and volunteers who took part, with some really moving farewell events organized by ELIX.

ELIX, supported by UNICEF and funded by the European Commission (DG ECHO), began in October 2017 the implementation of an educational program for refugee and immigrant children, aged 3-17, and their parents in Attica.

The aim of this project is to provide non-formal education and homework support to refugees and migrants children, as well as their parents, in order to contribute to their smooth integration into the formal education system through innovative educational methods.

ELIX, in partnership with Finn Church Aid (FCA), has successfully concluded the second part of the “Project Yoga” offering a certified training course to become Yoga instructor to 14 young people with 9 different nationalities (Albanian, Afghan, Bangladeshi, Greek, Iraqi, Irish, Kurdish, Spanish and Syrian).

After three months and more than 200 hours spent together in ELIX yoga studio, the future Yoga instructors have concluded the professional training that will improve their employability and offer them new professional opportunities in the future.

ELIX organized a two-day yoga seminar on 25 and 26 April, dedicated to children and with the contribution of internationally renowned Spanish teacher Cayetna Rodenas, as part of the Project Yoga, which is being implemented in collaboration with Finn Church Aid.

A total of 43 people benefited by this specific action, including 21 children, refugees and immigrants, who attend ELIX's non-formal education project that is supported by UNICEF and funded by DG ECHO.

PARTNER:
ELIX will organize for the seventh consecutive year this type of workcamps. The workcamps aim to support families that encounter difficulties, by providing their children the opportunity to spend a quality summer time at school through creative activities.

PARTNER:
ELIX will organize four workcamps "THIS SUMMER IS OURS" with the support of the company - Hellenic Petroleum - and the Municipalities of Elefsina in Attika and Kordelio-Evosmos in Thessaloniki. The workcamp aims to support children and young people with mental and physical disabilities, by providing them the opportunity to spend a quality summer time through creative activities since it is difficult for this target group to find any activities they could take part in during summer.

Psycho-social support through yoga and vocational skills training for refugees in Greece - a project by ELIX in collaboration with Finn Church Aid

ELIX, in partnership with Finn Church Aid (FCA), has launched the second part of the “Project Yoga” that offers a certified training course to young people to become Yoga instructor.

ELIX in partnership with Sky School is offering social entrepreneurship courses in Athens, Greece for young refugee and migrant learners.

Sky School, a new education initiative for refugee youth, aims to become the first international high school for displaced youth and refugees who have limited access to education because of conflict. It aspires to design a high school diploma program, based on online lessons and on-the-ground learning, which will be internationally recognized and founded on an international curriculum, inspired by the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP).

The project will support refugee integration in schools and is designed to provide day-to-day coverage of the educational needs of children aged 3-17 and daily support for the school study for children aged 6-15.

Continuing the successful cooperation with Finn Church Aid (FCA), ELIX is starting the “Project Yoga”, an educational project for locals, refugees and migrants that is promoting non-formal education as a tool towards integration and personal development.

In October and November 2017, the project is offering a series of Yoga classes for beginners in order to contribute to integration in Greece by bringing together refugees and host community members and enhance the psychosocial and physical wellbeing of the participants.
