The lovely project called ‘The history of the Atlantic coast’ will give you the opportunity to help restore the Fort Liédot, a fortress located in the beautiful Island of Aix, in the Atlantic Ocean. On the Island of Aix, you can profit out of numerous nautical activities, such as sailing with local clubs. The beach, bike rides bordering the sea, beach volleyball and other pleasures are to be discovered. You can also visit forts and museums as well as certain cities such as La Rochelle and Rochefort. The time dedicated to leisure activities promote the meeting with inhabitants who wait for you with impatience!
The workcamp ‘Historical wanderings in Clausonne Abbey’ aims at renovating and enhancing a historic site at the heart of idyllic mountain landscapes. You will learn about ancient techniques of masonry, the use of ancient material and ecology and you will be in an exceptional setting where you will discover the pleasures of rivers, lakes, and mountain hiking, and you will meet farmers and participate in the festive nights organized in surrounding villages.
The project ‘Le Fort de Laiguille’ will give you the chance to restore the northern facade of the Aiguille fort, known as the largest fortress in France. The place is a really idyllic setting with a view of the Fort Boyard, facing the Atlantic Ocean. You will be in Fouras-les-Bains, Charente-Maritime, 20 km from La Rochelle. In your free time you will be able to discover numerous nautical activities; do bike riding bordering the sea; visit forts and museums, as well as some cities like La Rochelle and Rochefort.
7) SJ05, A SUSTAINABLE WALL, Serres, RENO, 31/05/20 - 13/06/20, 18-90.
The workcamp is focused on renovating a retaining wall of the Path of the Monks in Serres, a stunning location in the South of France which offers a magnificent panorama of the Alps. Under the guide of a professional you will learn dry stone techniques. The pedagogical objective of the project is to discover a traditional construction technique which does not require any special material, except for stones from the stoning of fields intended for agriculture or recovered from old buildings. Theoretical, historical and practical contributions will be disseminated.
8) SJ07, FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL, Montendre, FEST CULT, 05/06/20 - 26/06/20, 18-90.
Montendre is a charming town in the southwestern France where the "FREE Music Festival", an artistic event of contemporary music, is a source of development and local dynamism which contributes to highlighting this small town. The festival is supported by the association ‘A Donf' which aims to promote and develop education and artistic practices for all. The international workcamp will bring a rich intercultural dimension to the artistic and intergenerational dynamics carried by the event. You will work with other volunteers in the preparation and setting up of the festival and accommodations (camp, food area/rest area/volunteers, etc.). Moreover, you will welcome the public and help volunteers in the event’s logistics. After the festival, you will help in cleaning and tiding the place in a friendly atmosphere. Located close to nice villages, the project will give you the opportunity to enjoy local heritage. In your free time you will take part in music events, night markets, farmer markets where you will taste local products. Visits to cities like Bordeaux or Angoulême, and beach days can be organized. Cognac and St Emilion, two traditional cities of wine, are very close!
9) SJ09, A FISTUL OF LIME, Tende, RENO, 14/06/20 - 27/06/20, 18-90.
In this workcamp volunteers will participate in the construction of a welcome centre and exhibition space that will benefit the hosting association’s educational events. You will be at an altitude of 1.500 metres in an isolated mountainous area, 10 km from the village of Tende, 2 hours from Nice by train, and 50 km from Ventimiglia (Italy).
10) SJ10, THE STONE HOUSE, Tende, RENO, 14/06/20 - 27/06/20, 18-90.
Take part in an enriching experience that will teach you new skills in a communal environment. Under the guidance of a technical leader, you will make a valuable contribution to the larger scale project of restoration and development of one of the Maritime Alps heritage sites. You will be at an altitude of 1.500 metres in an isolated mountainous area, 10 km from the village of Tende, 2 hours from Nice by train, and 50 km from Ventimiglia (Italy).
11) IBG 06, CLEANING STREAMS OBERZISSEN, Oberzissen, RENO ENVI MANU, 27/05/20 - 10/06/20, 18-99.
If you participate in this lovely environmental project, you will help the community of Oberzissen, a village not far from Bonn, to clear three small streams leading through the village centre. Villagers are excited to meet you and get to know all volunteers’ different cultures. Your support will help the community to avoid the dangers of flooding, according to the 11th sustainable development goal set by all United Nations Member States (sustainable cities and communities).
12) IBG 05 CASTLE FESTIVAL GRIMBURG, RENO FEST, 18/05/20 - 27/05/20, 18-30.
Enjoy living in the Grimburg Castle, support the maintenance of its grounds, and help to organize a small festival! In this project there will be indeed two parts of work. The first one will be the maintenance of the castle’s grounds, by doing various works, such as cutting bushes and grass, protecting the masonry, maintaining the historic mediaeval herb garden, and do some cleaning work in the castle’s and witches museum. The second group of activities in which you will take part regards the support for the castle’s festival which will take place on May 21st: you will be involved in the local team of volunteers; support in the preparation and organization of the castle’s festival; help to set up the festival; and sell food and drinks, among other activities. You will become part of the local festival team and of course celebrate with them! Although the castle is immersed in nature and is isolated, you will also meet local people and share time with them or make an excursion to Trier, the oldest German city. There you will find many historical sites from the Roman period, many clubs and events.
13) SJ/ESC11, TRACING THE STEPS OF THE DUKE OF LESDIGUIERES, FRANCE, Gap, RENO, 29/06/20 - 19/07/20, 18-30.
Do you want to participate in the protection of a historic site at the heart of idyllic mountain landscapes? Join us and come discover the castle of Lesdiguières and its natural setting at an altitude of 1140 metres! You will be at the Ecrins National Park, between the Valgaudemar, Champsaur and Dévoluy valleys. Your eyes will never cease to be amazed by this exceptional environment! You will discover the pleasures of hiking in the mountains, its rivers and lakes, among many other activities.
The project SJ/ESC11 is funded through the European Solidarity Corps scheme and will cover your travel expenses up to 275 euro, as well as your food and accommodation costs.
