Στην άκρη της Ιβηρικής η Πορτογαλία από την μια πλευρά του Ατλαντικού και το Μεξικό από την άλλη είχαν πάντα ενδιαφέροντες προτάσεις για προγράμματα εθελοντισμού, δίνοντας την ευκαιρία στους εθελοντές πραγματικά να γνωρίσουν πολιτισμούς γεμάτους χρώματα, γεύσεις και μουσική…
Την εβδομάδα αυτή ετοιμάσαμε μια λίστα με 21 καλοκαιρινά εθελοντικά προγράμματα στην Πορτογαλία, το Μεξικό αλλά και για αυτούς που αναζητούν κάτι πιο ήρεμο 4 προτάσεις στο Βέλγιο από όπου κάποιος έχει πολλές επιλογές εκεί.
Ο Ιούνιος είναι μια ανάσα πια και πολλοί έχουν ήδη εξασφαλίσει την θέση τους σε ένα από τα καλοκαιρινά προγράμματα εθελοντικής εργασίας σε όλο τον κόσμο και κάνουν τα σχέδιά τους….τώρα είναι η στιγμή και για εσένα!!!
Πορτογαλία
1. PT-IPJ 10.6, REBORN FROM THE ASHES, RENO ENVI AGRI, 16/07/18 - 27/07/18, 18-30.
The workcamp aims at promoting intercultural relations between young participants and local community; valuing the environmental and historical heritage of the parish of Serpins, a town located 25 km from the city of Coimbra, and the industrial heritage of paper; making the region and its heritage known; and promoting a plantation of native species; among many other activities.
2. PT-IPJ 10.10, THE FOREST IS OUR HOME, ENVI CONS MANU, 18/07/18 - 29/07/18, 18-30.
During 12 days young volunteers will participate in various activities of work, creation, responsibility and fellowship and interaction with the Population of Arrouquelas. It is a project that aims to help our village to preserve its surrounding forest and to prevent fires. This workcamp will leave results, due to the experience and ecological attitude that we intend to instill in young people, through intercultural dynamism, but also through the work done, by creating better conditions for the surveillance of our forest.
3. PT-IPJ 12.1, CIRCUS FOR ALL, SOCI DISA FEST, 20/07/18 - 31/07/18, 18-30.
The aim of this workcamp is to contribute to an inclusive project called "One for All" where a "social circus" methodology is experimented, and through music, dramatic expression and circus, personal, social, motor and cognitive skills of young and adults with mild, moderate and severe motor and mental disabilities (the circus as an inclusion tool) are promoted. Participants will accompany, practise, learn and teach young people and adults with disabilities some circus performances, together with supervisors and teachers; and will support all dimensions of their performance before, during and after the Youth Festival of Circus. Besides the artistic and supporting tasks, participants will be also asked to decorate the space for the Festival, making sure it is accessible for everyone (for example to people with mobility problems).
4. PT-IPJ 12.2, ARQUEOROMA, RENO ARCH, 06/08/18 - 17/08/18, 18-30.
This is an archaeological project based in the town Freixo de Numão, which aims at giving continuity to an archeological research project, as well as to the efforts done so far, in order to turn the archeological place into a museum. Volunteers will continue, through methodological archaeological excavation, to define the outline of the settlement, walls and housing structures; initiate works of restoration and conservation with a view to the musealization of the site; and do methodological excavation work, with archaeologists accompaniment; among other activities. In spare time volunteers will visit castles, historical villages (Marialva), Côa Museum; Rock Art of the Côa Valley and Douro Wine Region (UNESCO world heritages ).
5. PT-IPJ 10.11, HISTORIC DOURO-VAROSA TRAIL, RENO ENVI, 01/09/18 - 10/09/18, 18-30.
The local host, Inovterra, is a local development association whose mission is to combat the abandonment of rural areas. Inovterra is working in the Douro-Varosa Trail that allows to pass through Douro and Varosa Valley by walk. Last year we made the marking and cleaning of the route, this year we intend to work on the international promotion of the route. Therefore, volunteers will clean and maintain route and signs; they will do GPS route marking; will make a photographic record of the natural beauty and landscape of the trail, as well as of the buildings that are part of the cultural heritage; and dissemination in social networks (world); among other tasks. Beside this, we pretend to provide a different experience to young volunteers, who will be given the opportunity to know new sources of development, a new culture, and practical work, while getting to know the history of Portugal and its interior. With recreational and cultural exchanges with local habitants there will be many occasions for intercultural learning; we will foster cultural enrichment through visits in the region (Porto, Lamego, the Douro valley) and will develop leisure and environmental improvement activities.
6. PT-IPJ 10.2, FOREST FOR FUTURE, RENO ENVI CONS, 03/09/18 - 12/09/18, 18-30.
In this project, based in Lousada, volunteers will prevent forest and populations against fire; promote sustainability, environmental awareness, and biodiversity protection; foster intercultural relationships, good environmental practices and citizenship; and gain specific skills in the field of environmental management, nature protection and biodiversity.
7. PT-IPJ 10.5, UP THIS RIVER, RENO ENVI, 17/09/18 - 28/09/18, 18-30.
This is another workcamp that nature lovers should definitely look at! The project’s impact will be the valorization of the river of Spoundo Jopoundo, its mills and waterfalls; and the preservation and promotion of the cultural and natural heritage of the Serra da Louspound, in order to make it more accessible and known. There will be several moments of interculturality among young people from different countries, who will understand the value of volunteering as a "tool" for local development (whether at cultural, environmental or tourist level).
8. PT-IPJ 11.2, ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE, MANU AGRI, 19/09/18 - 30/09/18, 18-30.
The objectives of this beautiful agricultural workcamp, based in Amarante, a small town in the North of Portugal, are raising awareness among participants and population on organic farms, organic food and fair trade; developing skills related to agricultural work in organic farms and environment preservation; and running activities aimed at increasing the level of commitment at local level for organic and fair trade products. If you participate in this project, you will work in organic farms; be trained on fair trade and sustainable development; attend a presentation on the city and the region; visit the most important places of the city and some of the main cities and spots in the North of Portugal (Porto, Alto Douro Vinhateiro, etc.).
9. PT-IPJ 10.8, IWC - PLANTING THE RAIN, POR (Lagos), RENO ENVI AGRI, 10/09/18 - 21/09/18, 18-30.
This is a workcamp for nature lovers! The aim of the project is creating and caretaking new forests in areas damaged by human activity and wildfires in Portugal. Together we will feed the soil and act to prevent fire, so that young forests can survive hot summers and offer shade, water, and natural spaces to future generations of people and wildlife. While working on an ecologically degraded area, we will use techniques for soil and water management, in order to create conditions in which trees can survive. Among other activities, we will start a tree nursery, and start planting local species in few places where watering is possible.

10. VIVE18.05, CONSERVATION THE HOME OF MONARCH BUTTERFLIES, ENVI SOCI, 04/07/18 - 17/07/18, 18-99.
The Monarch Butterfly Reserve is located in the central part of Mexico. It is under threat of disappearance, due to environmental contamination and lack of environmental consciousness. The project, based in the town Angangueo, aims to help the conservation of the butterfly reserve with the help of volunteers. Work will focus on restructuring the natural habitat of the butterflies, in order to prevent the extinction and protect future generations. There will also be activities organized for reforestation, sanitation and cleaning, while strengthening the infrastructure by using environment-friendly methods. In addition, volunteers will be organizing campaigns to increase the awareness of the locals and the tourists. During their free time volunteers will have the opportunity to go to Morelia city, the dynamic and beautiful capital of Michoacan.
11. VIVE18.03, INTERCULTURAL PROJECT, SOCI, 04/07/18 - 17/07/18, 18-99, Extra Fee 75 EUR.
The objective of this project is offer local communities recreational and restorative activities. The project is organized by the government institution Educafin. The project aims to bring young people from different countries together with the people of Guanajuato, and to create an intercultural atmosphere through collective work. Volunteers will be working primarily on restorative activities at a school. Some of the activities will be painting the walls, repairing benches, and organizing green areas. In addition, volunteers will be participating in intercultural activities with young people from Leon. There will also be a visit to the children’s hospital.
12. VIVE18.07, INTERCULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT IN TWO CITIES, ENVI SOCI, 11/07/18 - 24/07/18, 18-99.
This is a very special project that will be organized in two different cities/states of Mexico. During the first week volunteers will be in the city of Queretaro, while during the second week activities will take place in one of the most beautiful towns in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende. The project aims to motivate young people to be more environment-friendly; respect green spaces; and help their restauration. In addition, it will focus on improving the life of people with less opportunities with youth action. If you are interested in meeting locals; discovering new places; exchanging life stories; and leaving a mark in people’s lives, this project is for you.
13. VIVE18.13, ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT AT THE RETIREMENT HOME, ENVI SOCI CULT, 01/08/18 - 14/08/18, 18-99.
The main objective of the project is to improve the life of people living in a retirement home, by creating green spaces, planting fruits and vegetables, and organizing activities with them. The project will be organized in cooperation with the municipality of Tolcayuca, Hidalgo. Moreover, this workcamp also aims to bring volunteers and different communities from Hidalgo together.
The first week of the project will be focused on creating green spaces at the retirement home. During the second week, volunteers will be visiting different towns in Hidalgo, such as Tizayuca, Zapotlan and Villa de Tezontepec and organizing activities with different communities. Volunteers are expected to work with communities, in order to increase consciousness about eating organic vegetables and fruits, creating more green spaces, and reducing waste by using it as fertilizer or to prepare a compost.
14. VIVE18.12, ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT, SOCI CULT, 01/08/18 - 14/08/18, 18-99.
The project will be organized at the Metropolitan Polytechnic University of Hidalgo. The objective of the project is to learn about entrepreneurship and share experiences collectively. During the workcamp workshops on business planning, networking, innovation will be organized regularly. Volunteers are expected to participate in workshops and to contribute from their own experiences or examples from their countries. In addition, there will be meetings organized with local entrepreneurs. During the project some touristic visits are planned, as well!
15. VIVE18.14, WORKING WITH INDIGENOUS WOMEN, ENVI SOCI, 08/08/18 - 21/08/18, 18-99.
The project, based in the town Zacapoaxtla, aims at promoting quality and education, by creating a common and collaborative approach for the benefit of indigenous women in Mexico; sharing and discussing about human rights, access to health, violence prevention, and peace promotion. Only female volunteers will be accepted in this workcamp. Volunteers will be organizing/participating in the workshops on health, prevention of violence against women, women’s rights. Volunteers will be welcomed to share their experiences from their own countries, since there will be exchange of ideas, in order to increase awareness on how the behaviors of men and women can be improved to decrease violence.
16. VIVE18.17, ENVIRONMENTAL AGENT 007, ENVI EDU, 05/09/18 - 18/09/18, 18-99.
The mission of this project, based in Zacapoaxtla, is to work against climate change and encourage local youngsters’ participation in environmental care activities. International volunteers will provide workshops on environmental education, and help to carry out practices on Eco technology learned from local experts. Volunteers will have the opportunity to share success cases from their countries in the fields of environmental education, urban solid waste management, alternative energies and Eco techniques. Volunteers will also encourage cultural exchange with students, through English speaking clubs. If you want to share your knowledge about environmental practices, have fun and make many new friends, then this project is ideal for you!
17. VIVE18.20, WORKING WITH CHILDREN, ENVI SOCI, 03/10/18 - 16/10/18, 18-99.
The project, located in Tolcayuca in the state of Hidalgo, aims at giving children with less means the opportunity to interact with volunteers from different countries, in order to create intercultural atmosphere and space for socialization. Volunteers will organize classes for children, such as singing, drawing, sports, reading, learning languages classes, or will simply play games with children.

18. CBB06, ABBAYE DE MAREDRET, ENVI MANU, 28/07/18 - 11/08/18, 18-99.
If you love manual work and would like to help a non-profit organization in Belgium, have a look at this workcamp! The non-profit organization of Abbaye des Saints Jean et Scholastique is directly connected to the Maredret Abbey, a high patrimonial and cultural value in Belgium. This partnership is built on the will to preserve the patrimonial heritage and create dialogue between volunteers working for a pluralist association and a local catholic community, each person being accepted with his/her convictions and personal point of view. Beside its spiritual life, the association organizes activities and creative workshops for everybody interested. The main part of the activities, as Yoga, Gregorian music, vegetable and fruits gardens, gold coating, try to offer appropriate place to facilitate the exchanges and to feel relaxed. The well preserved area surrounding the abbey with gardens, orchards, and plantation contributes a lot to this peaceful atmosphere. Volunteers crew will work outside, especially to restore the surrounding wall of the Abbey: cleaning the wall, weeding, and pruning, painting benches, etc. Maredret (25km away from bigger cities Dinant and Namur) is a traditional village where most houses are built in stones of the country extracted during decades of local quarries. Maredret is a small jewel set in a region considered for the beauty of its landscapes and its natural resources.

If you have a basic knowledge of the French language and you are interested in the topic of inclusion of people with disabilities, do not miss this workcamp! Its aim is indeed to offer people with light mental disability the possibility to go on holidays with young international volunteers. During the workcamp, they share leisure time activities, make cultural visits and, above all, have fun. CBB staff and volunteers will be in charge of organizing leisure time (excursions, walks, games, parties, etc.), daily life and meals. During the project, each volunteer will be responsible for caring and facilitating an active participation of one or two person with learning disabilities. After 2 days you will be amazed by the jarring atmosphere. While respecting the rhythm of each one, we are all there to enjoy ourselves. The project is located in the village of Vergnies, in a rural area in a well preserved zone in the south part of Belgium. The biggest complex of artificial lakes of the country is located at only 10km.

If you like manual work, have a look at this project, where, assisted by local technical leaders, at the primary school of Saint Martin site in Marche-en-Famenne, the group of volunteers will do different manual tasks outside. The project will concern arrangements to improve the greater well-being of the children in play areas: construction of a playing circuit for babies, an obstacle circuit for children, etc. Marche-en-Famenne is a lovely small town in the countryside, but Liège, Namur, Brussels and Luxembourg can be easily reached by train in about one hour.
